After hearing so many great things about the Drobo storage device, mostly from the fantastic MacBreak Weekly podcast (#88) I took the plunge and purchased on. I went with two Western Digital 500GB drives, which gives me just under 500GB of protected storage.
I’m using Drobo for my Time Machine backups on Mac OS X. It’s a very quiet piece of kit, which means I’ve got it on my desk where I can see the LED indicators, closely guarded by Morph ![]()

I’m still using the Mac Backup program (that comes with .Mac) to do daily back-ups to online storage for critical (working) documents and weekly back-ups to a NAS (Buffalo Linkstation) for iTunes etc. My Buffalo is also backing itself up nightly to a USB drive attached to one of its ports.
Turns out that the CEO of Drobo is an old friend from my university halls of residence. He was studying cybernetics, so no surprise that he’s named his product Data Robot (Drobo).
