If, like me, you’re lucky enough to be on the Virgin Media XL cable modem deal, then you should be enjoying the new 20 Mbps speeds, rapidly heading towards 50 Mbps. Unless, that is, you’re an old and loyal (ex-NTL) customer, like me. In which case, they reward your loyalty by not telling you that the Terayon modem can’t go faster than 8 Mbps.

If you’re an old customer, then give them a call and ask them to replace your modem, which they should do free of charge. You will have to call their help line, but they cancel the usual charges. The number is 0906 212 1111.
